Kakamega lawmaker Titus Khamala claims President William Ruto is now stingy

Lurambi Member of Parliament, Bishop Titus Khamala, claimed President William Ruto is a stingy man unlike his days as a deputy president in the past regime.

Speaking during a thanks giving church service at the Anglican Church of Kenya, Christ Church Cathedral in Kakamega County on June 18, 2023, the weekend, Bishop Khamala revealed this and left the President in unbound laughter.

“Your Excellency, allow me to say Happy Father’s Day to you. As our father, as the father of the nation. To those who have been saying we have been bought, His Excellency is here and he is not the man you used to know in the past. These days he does not give (money) as much as he used to. Here he is. When you go there (to President Ruto), I have been there twice or thrice, I went with Honorable Washiali and when he told us to go well I asked him ‘Your Excellency, these days Bishops don’t get anything?’ So for those thinking I am not there, this man looks at development projects these days. His pocket is no longer the way it used to be in the past but I will still visit you Your Excellency…

Your Excellency, we are friends. We have visited each other’s homes but things have now changed. When I call you, your phone just emits a user busy or unavailable tone. It was not the tone I was used to. Matters have become so many such that when I call, my phone call does not go through, when I come to State House, my name is not at the gate. Now I wonder did you give me money via osmosis?,” said Bishop Khamala.

The lawmaker also revealed he had made a number of trips to State House since President Ruto assumed tenancy only to leave the place empty handed.

“Even when you go to State House, the President will talk to you and shake your hand, and wish you a good day.”

He said this as he hit out at people who claimed he had been given money by President Ruto to stay away from Parliament ahead of the Finance Bill vote, saying he had been overseeing his child’s wedding and hadn’t met the President in a long while.

President Ruto was always known to be a generous giver, always giving millions to churches across the country and for other reasons outside religion. This became one of the things his critics weaponized, claiming he looted government agencies and gave money to churches to clear his consciousness.
