Kalonzo’s son graduates with name missing in booklet

Former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka’s son, Klein Kalonzo was among the 8,803 graduates during the 52nd graduation ceremony of the University of Nairobi on Friday.

Donning a black graduating gown, a maroon and pink sash and undergraduate cap, Klein was conferred with a Journalism degree.

His father attended the auspicious occasion where he sat among other dignitaries at the podium but after the function he could not hide his joy of having a son graduate.

Together they posed for photos near the podium amidst a lot of laughter and joy.

DIGNITARIES IN ATTENDANCE

The younger Kalonzo’s name was however missing in the graduation booklet and when asked to confirm what particular degree he had been conferred with, his father’s aide Dennis Kavisu said, “He has graduated with a degree in communication.”

Klein is also a musician and released his debut hit song ‘Looking up’  with Dandora Music group this year.

Others who graduated were NTV’s Sheila Mwanyigha who was conferred with a Masters of Arts in Medical Sociology and musician Wahu Kagwe who was conferred with a Masters in Communication Studies degree.

The graduation, which saw Prof George Magoha make his last speech as the University’s Vice Chancellor, was attended by various dignitaries including Senate Speaker Ekwe Ethuro and Energy Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir.

MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENTS

Prof Magoha who has led the institution for 10 years and addressed 20 graduations as VC will finish his term this month and will be succeeded by Prof Peter Mbithi.

Among the major announcements he made in his speech during the ceremony was that the 22 floor University Towers will be completed early next year as it is now on 21st floor.

He also announced the next project to meet the welfare needs of the increasing number of students.

“To meet these needs, the University plans to construct hostels to accommodate more than 5, 000 students on a five acre piece of land next to the Fairview Hotel.”
