Kambua opens up about personal grief after losing her first child

In a deeply personal and heartfelt video posted on her YouTube channel, renowned gospel singer Kambua has shared an emotional journey through the pain of losing her first child to a miscarriage.

Kambua, a mother of four, has spoken candidly about the grief and challenges she faced during this difficult period in her life.

In her heart-rending video, Kambua recalls the moment she discovered she was expecting her first child.

It was a joyous occasion after several years of marriage, and she vividly remembers the excitement that washed over her.

However, alongside the anticipation, she carried a burden of public expectations and comments that unknowingly weighed heavily on her shoulders.

People’s comments and hints about her future as a mother added pressure to her already delicate situation.

“People start to hint and others asking what I was waiting for, and I remember meeting a heavily pregnant woman who told me, ‘harakisha ushike ball Kambua. You know you will be so marketable.’ I remember thinking about what she said about my brand becoming stronger and getting more endorsements. She didn’t realize the struggle I was having mentally, emotionally, and the fact that we had been trying but nothing was happening. It felt insensitive in some way.”

Kambua courageously shared her journey of realizing she was pregnant after years of trying, the excitement of finally seeing a positive pregnancy test, and the joy she and her husband, Jackson Mathu felt in anticipation of their child.

She recounted the supportive and elated reactions from family and close friends when they learned the good news.

However, the joy was met with unexpected challenges when Kambua experienced intense hip pain during her pregnancy.

As the pain intensified, she sought medical assistance, and an ultrasound was performed.

The doctor’s news was devastating.

Kambua recalled the painful moment when she was told:

“Kambua, I’m sorry, there is no heartbeat.”

The singer, in a state of shock and disbelief, said she sobbed inconsolably.

Kambua says the memory of the doctor’s words, “there is no heartbeat,” became etched in her mind.

At that moment, she was met with compassion from the female doctor who held her and shared her own experiences of loss, offering Kambua a glimmer of hope in her darkest hour.

Kambua confessed that she initially chose to keep her story private, afraid of the potential judgment and pain associated with losing a child.

She didn’t want to be attacked for something beyond her control, and the fear of facing a world that might not understand her grief weighed heavily on her.

“The reason I did not share with people is coz I did not want to be attacked for losing a child. I could not handle the pain of losing the child and not having children and the pain of being attacked online,” she said.

However, the strength of her family’s support and her faith in God ultimately inspired her to share her story.

Kambua says she felt compelled to provide solace to other women who have heard the devastating words, “there is no heartbeat,” and to let them know they are not alone.

She hopes that her experience will encourage others to seek and offer support during the difficult journey of pregnancy loss.

“My family created a safe space and I decided to wait until God will give me the courage to share this for women who have been told ‘there is no heartbeat’ and encourage them that I also went through the same,” she said.
