I was drunk, woman who claimed she was pushed from Kasarani building now tells police

On the night of April 11, 2023, 26-year-old Cynthia Mboya fell off a balcony at Q Apartments in Camp David within Clay City in Kasarani Sub County.

Initially reported as attempted murder, Mboya now blames herself for starting the altercation that led to her fall because she was too drunk.

According to a police report, Mboya accused two men, Collins Kiptoo and Ian Kipkorir, of throwing her off the second floor of the building.

However, in a recent police report, Mboya stated that she was also to blame for starting the altercation and had forgiven her friend.

“She backtracked on the whole matter stating that she was also to blame for starting the problem, and had forgiven her friend and did not wish to proceed with the matter because she had not broken any bone. She only had muscle pains which she claimed she was managing with drugs issued in hospital,” the new police report filed afresh as a follow-up read in part.

The new statement led to the release of Kiptoo and Kipkorir from police custody, who were only required to report back on April 14, 2023.

However, it has been established that a former powerful political leader is involved in the dealings that saw the men released.

An amateur video obtained by Nairobi News shows Mboya being questioned by members of the public after she fell off the balcony.

“Naitwa Cynthia Mboya nanimetoka Ruiru (My name is Cynthia Mboya. I’m from Ruiru),” she told the residents who were questioning her.

She revealed that she had visited her boyfriend, Collins Kiptoo, before their altercation led to her fall. Mboya accused Kiptoo and Kipkorir of being in a relationship with another woman, which started the altercation.

When asked, she denied being a student and mentioned that she had already informed her father of her danger.

Despite Mboya’s change of statement, the incident is still under investigation.
