Leopards stand to lose big, as Katterrega closes in on Cape Town City deal

AFC Leopards stand to lose out on millions of shillings in transfer fees, following the management’s decision to allow midfielder Allan Katterega leave the club for free.

The Ugandan midfielder is reportedly on the verge of joining top South African club Cape Town City.

Katterega as recently pictured with Cape Town City’s coach Benni McCarthy.

“The transfer is close. McCarthy likes him and the player is also ready to make several sacrifices to play for the club,” a source told Nairobi News.

The Ugandan midfielder was cleared by Leopards to rejoin KCCA in his home country on a temporary arrangement mid-last year after a publicized touchline bust up with coach Robert Matano during a league match.

His splendid form in the Ugandan league eventually earned him a call up to the Uganda national team during the Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup last month in Kenya, where he also dazzled.

Now a free agent, the rules allow Katterega to negotiate for a move to any club without necessarily engaging Leopards or KCCA.

Had he been on contract however, the former Ushuru player would have been able to fetch Leopards upto Sh10 million in transfer fees, just like Kariobangi Sharks received from Cape Town City following the transfer of Masoud Juma early this month.
