KCB plot for African women’s volleyball event
Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) team manager Moses Gitau says his charges will go all out to “turn the tables” on the tops teams at the Women’s African Club Championship next month.
KCB which finished third in the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) women league last season, will alongside national champions Kenya Pipeline and dethroned winners Kenya Prisons represent the country at the continental event slated for Cairo on March 25 to April 6.
Kenya has been awarded three entries at the competition owing to the recent achievements by local clubs on the continental scene, and especially after Prisons and Pipeline claimed two of the three podium places in the last edition of the games staged in Tunisia, behind winners Algeria’s GSM Petroliers.
TURN THE TABLES
“We are keen to compete at this stage, put up a fight and turn the tables on the so called perennial campaigners. Considering our performances over the past year, am confident we have closed the gap on the likes of Prisons and Pipeline who have been major forces in the continent,” Gitau told Nairobi News.
KCB will be making a return to the continental scene in two years, when the side finished ninth at the 16 team competition that was staged in Nairobi.
The team is currently preparing for the competition at the Nairobi Railways club under the stewardship of coach Paul Gitau.
Jackeline Baraza and Ednah Rotich (Ulinzi), alongside Brackides Simiyu are the side’s new recruits, whilst Gitau will also be depending on Leah Ndeso and Wairimu Gladys (setters), Pauline Wafula and Pauline Nyongesa (centre attacker) to deliver the goods both in Cairo.
Meanwhile, the Kenya Pipeline sponsored KVF league is set to kick off in Nakuru County this weekend.
