Keli close to signing for Zambia’s Nkana FC

Kenya international striker Jacob Keli is on the verge of completing a move to the Zambia FAZ league in the coming days.

The top striker and his manager George Bwana is in the Southern African country’s Copperbelt town of Kitwe where the player is chasing a deal with Nkana FC.

The player underwent a rigorous medical exam on Wednesday morning, and was thereafter shown around the club facilities that include a club house, stadium, training pitches and sponsor, Mopani Copper mines.

“I am impressed with the facilities and hospitality of the Zambian people. Regarding the deal, there are some few issues to be ironed out but we should know the real situation in the coming days,” Keli told Nairobi News from Zambia.

SUCCESSFUL CLUB

Although local clubs Nakumatt FC and Tusker FC and another unnamed top Zambian club has expressed interest in the player, it is Nkana FC – formerly known as Nkana Red Devils – that have emerged as the frontrunners with an offer that is said to be double what the striker has been earning at AFC Leopards.

Keli, 23, is thus set to become the second top player to join the Zambian top tier league in the past six months, following closely in the footsteps of former Gor Mahia defender David “Calabar” Owino who moved to Zesco FC at the beginning of the year.

Keli has netted 40 goals in the domestic leagues and cup in the past three seasons.

With 12 league titles and a runners up position in the Caf Champions League, Nkana FC, which is remembered for eliminating AFC Leopards in the Cup winners Cup tournament back in 1994, is one of the most popular and successful clubs in Zambia.
