Kengeles owner caught up in Sh1.3m cancer cure seeds scam
A city auctioneer has been charged with swindling the owner of Kengeles Restaurant of Sh1.3 million by pretending to be able to provide special seeds that aid in the treatment of cancer.
Mr Kevin Githaiga, the owner of Kevco auctioneer, is alleged to have received the cash in instalments from David Matu Githua on diverse dates between March 19 2016 and February 2017.
The charge sheet stated that he was to import the seeds from Uganda and sell them in Kenya for a profit.
Mr Matu was to benefit from the business.
BOUNCING CHEQUES
Mr Githaiga denied five other counts of issuing five bouncing cheques to Mr Matu and two counts of obtaining money by false pretences.
The court heard on Tuesday that the offences were committed at Kengeles Restaurant located on Langata road.
The auctioneer was also accused of obtaining Sh500,000 from the businessman pretending that he would sell him a car.
Kibera magistrate Elizabeth Juma released him on Sh1m bond.
Mr Matu said in a statement to the police that the auctioneer was a long-time friend but he realized that the business venture to buy and sell seeds that allegedly cured cancer was hatched to con him.
The case will be mentioned on April 15.
