Kenya Kwanza duo Malala, Itumbi differ over TIFA poll
Kenya Kwanza leaders have shared varied feedback following a poll by Trends and Insights of Africa (TIFA) on the political state of the nation.
United Democratic Alliance (UDA) secretary general Cleophas Malala and Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Dennis Itumbi appeared to be reading from different pages.
Itumbi who also is a blogger and close ally of President William Ruto rubbished the poll in its entirety.
“We put Kenyan political pollsters, including TIFA, to a referendum during the elections, and we concluded they are liars. We did not believe them at the time. We will not take them seriously now. Even when they favor our political side,” Itumbi wrote on his social media.
On the other hand, Malala congratulated the poll for rating the ruling party as the most popular in Kenya.
“Hearty congratulations to the ruling Party, UDA and our members for the emerging top in the just released Tifa polls,” the former Kakamega Senator wrote on his socials.
He, however, noted the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) does not deserve its 28 percent popularity rating as indicated by TIFA.
“That percentage of the ODM party is way too high for a party that is on a downward trajectory.”
TIFA findings indicate that the only notable change in expressed political party support has been an increase in support for UDA (from 38 percent to 45 percent) and a slight drop in support for the second most popular party, ODM (from 32 percent to 29 percent).
The poll also shows that Jubilee party is third in popularity with a 5 percent followed by Kalonzo Musyoka-led Wiper Party at 2 percent while George Wajackoya’s Roots Party stands at fifth position with only 1 percent.
The research also indicated that 12% of the people who voted for President William Ruto in the August 2022 polls do not believe he won the election. 59% percent of those interviewed were also of the opinion that former President Uhuru Kenyatta should retire from politics.
