Kenya to play friendly against Seychelles

Kenya has landed an invite to play Seychelles in an international friendly match next week.

The clash is primed for Wednesday at the 10,000 seater Stade Linite in Victoria, a development that was exclusively confirmed to Nairobi News by Harambee Stars coach Bobby Williamson.

“We are to play Seychelles and having missed out on Cecafa, I think this match will offer the best possible workout for the lads,” Williamson  said.

Seychelles are expected to cater for then Kenyan contingent’s full board accommodation and local transport, whilst Football Kenya Federation (FKF) will cater for the camp expenses and air fare, according to a source within the Federation.

Williamson looks set to retain the bulk of players in the U-23 team that lost 4-1 on aggregate to Egypt in the opening phase of the All Africa Games qualifiers last month.

OLYMPIC QUALIFIERS

The friendly match will act as a build up to the Olympic qualifiers which commence in May.

Kenya will kick start her campaign in the later competition with a clash against Botswana.

Former Africa champions Nigeria, the continent’s number one ranked team Algeria and Saudi Arabia are the other teams that have shown interest in playing against Kenya, though the West Africans have since entered a separate agreement to play Uganda on the same day.

Harambee Stars, who are placed 118th in the Fifa rankings, thrashed the islanders 7-0 the last time the two teams met during the 2014 World Cup qualifiers.
