Kenya U-17 team to play at Cosafa Championships
The Kenya U17 national team has been invited to compete at the Cosafa Championship in Mauritius. This two-week tournament involving nations drawn from South and East Africa, will commence on July 22.
Kenya has been offered a chance to grace the predominantly Southern Africa age group competition as a guest team, following the abrupt withdrawal of Mozambique.
The Kenyan youth side, now coached by newly appointed Romanian technical director Andrew Spiers, will face Zambia, Madagascar and Malawi in Group B. A top two finish will guarantee the Kenyan team a semi-final berth.
South Africa, Namibia, Lesotho and Botswana are the other nations taking part in the competition – which has been branded as “the future of African football.”
The newly-assembled Kenyan team will use this championship to fine tune for a potentially difficult African Under-17 Championship qualifier against Cameroon in August.
