Kenya Under 23 team named

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has unveiled a 31-man squad that will begin preparations for the All Africa Games and Africa Under 23 Championships.

This squad comprises players plying their trade in the Kenyan Premier League and the second tier league in the country.

Among those named in the squad are Mathare United shot stopper Robert Mboya, Sofapaka defender Collins Shivachi and burly forward Enock Agwanda also of Sofapaka.

Gor Mahia signings Bernard Odhiambo, younger brother to Kenya international defender David Owino, and Micheal Olunga have also been named in the team.

“I will take this call up very seriously and stake my claim to the senior national team,” Odhiambo told Nairobi News.

Kenya will play Egypt in the opening phase of the All Africa Games qualification campaign, with the first leg match slated for mid next month away in the North African nation.

The eventual winner of this tie will face either Burundi or the Democratic Republic of Congo in April-May, with the aggregate winner fighting for the qualification ticket with Ivory Coast.

The team will be handled by current Harambee Stars coach Bobby Williamson, who helped his former team Uganda Kobs qualify for the last edition of the All Africa Games in Maputo.

The team will formally commence training next week.
