Kenyan Athletes eager to take photos with Usain Bolt
Kenyan athletes competing at the Rio Olympics in Brazil seem keen to have a moment of fame with Jamaican sensation Usain Bolt.
Understandably so.
Bolt is officially considered the fastest man on earth thanks to his records in the short distance races. He is undoubtedly also one of the most popular brands in the global sporting industry.
The 29-year-old is already in Brazil, ready to defend (and break his own records) in the 100m and 200m disciplines at the international games.
Thus, the sprinter’s presence at the Olympic Village in Rio de Janeiro has understandably excited boxer Benson Gicharu and rugby sensation Collins Injera, both of whom took photos with him.
Later, an excited Gicharu shared the picture with his friends and followers on Facebook, before jokingly suggesting that photo should be “enough to secure him a loan with a Kenyan bank”.
The 31-year-old Kenyan boxer also appreciated Bolt’s height in the accompanying message stating: “with Usain Bolt, pande ya height amenichomea kuubwa haithuru…hii picha na ile ya orezo ntachukuwa nazo loan mbaya” loosely translated to mean “he undoubtedly is much taller than me but that’s no problem. I hope to use this photo and the one I took with President Uhuru Kenyatta as guarantee to apply for a loan).
The Olympics formally commenced at the Maracana stadium in Rio on Friday.
