Kenyan couple’s dreams cut short in tragic wrong-way crash in USA


A promising future became a nightmare for a Kenyan couple, Gideon Mbatha Mutuka, 43, and Ruth Mulisa Wambusa, 38, who lost their lives in a catastrophic accident on the 71 Freeway in Chino Hill, USA.

The couple, who called Lake Elsinore their home, was amongst four individuals who perished in the deadly crash caused by a reckless driver who entered the freeway in the wrong direction.

This happened on Sunday, March 19, 2021, at 2:30 am.

The heartbreaking incident involved at least six cars that collided with the vehicle driven by the wrong-way driver, leading to a catastrophic chain reaction.

Authorities say that the speed and force of the collision was so high that the vehicle on the wrong side spun around in the air before settling on the center divider, where it burst into flames.

“Both drivers were killed on the spot following the crash,” said patrol officers.

The California Highway Patrol disclosed that the driver who caused the accident entered the southbound lane of the freeway via Central Avenue, causing a head-on collision.

The wreckage of accident resulted in four other vehicles crashing, causing multiple injuries to other passengers.

The accident’s aftermath caused the southbound side of the 71 Freeway to remain closed for over eight hours, as authorities investigated the tragic incident.

“If you’re driving at this hour of the evening, early in the morning… If you’re able to, stay away from that fast lane,” said CHP Officer Stephen Rawls. “Try to travel down the middle lanes, that way you have an exit.”

 As the investigation continues, it’s a stark reminder of how reckless driving can cause unimaginable pain and suffer to innocent victims.
