Volleyball queens shine at All Africa Games qualifiers in Kampala
Kenya sealed a second win in as many outings at the Zone V women All Africa Games qualifiers in Kampala on Wednesday.
The results place the “African Queens” on the verge of securing qualification to the tournament proper set for Brazzaville, Congo this September.
The team easily saw off what turned out to be the feeble challenge from arch rivals Egypt in the opening match courtesy of a 3-1 sets win in the opener on Tuesday.
Coach David Lung’aho’s charges followed this result by chalking up a straight sets victory of 25-19, 25-17 and 25-9 result over Ethiopia.
“Our aim was to qualify for the All Africa Games as the best placed team from our zone and am happy we remain on course,” Lung’aho said.
Not even the absence of Kenya’s top players Brackides Agala and Jane Wacu – who missed out owing to club commitments – has hampered the team’s performances.
Kenya, which is the best ranked team on the continent, require a solitary win against either Burundi or Uganda, to be earn a ticket to Brazzaville.
The games are set for Friday and Saturday respectively.
Egypt is the best placed team to join Kenya at the continental championship based on performances and ratings.
