Kenyan team fired up for FIVB Grand Prix

National women volleyball team captain Brackides Agala says the team is “fired up” for the upcoming FIVB Grand Prix in Mexico.

The tournament starts on Thursday, barely a week after Kenya’s clinched the Africa Nations Championship title in Nairobi.

Kenya easily beat Algeria (twice), Botswana, Mauritius and Cameroon enroute to claiming an unprecedented ninth continental title.

The team left Nairobi at midnight on Tuesday for the 24 hour trip to Monterrey, Mexico for the competition.

WELL PREPARED

The team made a stop over at the Charles Da Gaulle International Airport in Paris on Wednesday morning, with the contingent expected to commence the remainder of the 16 hour flight later in the day.

“We are completely fired up for this occasion although at the international level the competition is stiffer and there is no margin for error. But we are determined to do well and qualify for the play-offs,” Agala told Nairobi News before the team’s departure.

Coach David Lung’aho added: “We have prepared very well for the last two months and had this competition in mind, we are hopeful for the best.”

The National Oil sponsored outfit has been pooled alongside Mexico, Peru and Colombia in the first leg of matches.
