What Kenyans think of ‘new opposition leader’

The pronouncement by Bungoma senator Moses Wetangula over the weekend that he is the new opposition leader has elicited mixed reactions online.

The embattled senator said he would fight for Kenyans after his colleagues in the ODM and Wiper Parties vowed to work with the ruling Jubilee Party.

“The opposition is right here, I’m leading the opposition and we are fighting for Kenyans,” he said.

However, some Kenyans have questioned how the senator’s party, which only has 10 members in the National Assembly, would pull off the opposition role.

Michael Okollo stated, “Will Wetangula oppose the government alone? One senator 10 MPs from Ford Kenya… Very soon Murkomen and the likes will join him. Hizi makelele tunasikia about Mau is not the real Mau eviction. It’s all about Raila’s role in the government.”

Isaac Mandela commented, “Wetangula should not forget that at some point Dr Ekuru Aukot considered himself as the ‘opposition’”

Baba Maryam wrote, “The only opposition role Wetangula is capable of playing is opposition against Odinga. He lacks balls to confront the government on any issue.”

Titus Ndemwa tweeted, “Stand firm Mhesh Wetangula. We will stand with you. History will judge you kindly. The forest is fertile for you. Push on even if they leave you alone. I tell you surely Kenyans are with you ni vile hawataki kusema openly.”

Mukami Mungai added, “Can the real Opposition leader in Kenya stand up. Wetangula now claims he’s the one;has Ekuru Aukot relinquished the seat? We are getting confused ?”

Saadiq-Al Amin wrote, “Wetangula has 3 MPs out of the 9 in his home county. From now henceforth, he is Minority leader in Bungoma County. He has since been devolved.”
