Kenyans on Twitter rant against Kidero’s new traffic flow plan

Kenyans on Twitter (KOT) went ham on Governor Dr Evans Kidero on Monday for what they termed as a failed attempt to end traffic snarl ups in the city.

In their usual trademark, KOT trended the hashtag #SomeoneTellKidero where they vented their dissatisfaction with Dr Kidero’s latest move to close down some roundabouts, with some saying the move had only intensified traffic.

The Nairobi county government, working in conjunction with the Transport ministry, has remodelled five roundabouts on Mombasa Road, Uhuru Highway and Waiyaki Way.

But while traffic has reduced in Westlands, the situation on Mombasa Road appears to have been worsened.

Waru G complained: “#SomeoneTellKidero we can’t keep telling our bosses we are stuck in JAM! Tunamwaga unga while he holds PR sessions on improving Nbi lives.”

The Consumer Federation of Kenya (Cofek) even proposed a march to forcefully eject the governor from office.

“#SomeoneTellKidero Please RT if you can join us in a peaceful demo to forcefully eject @KideroEvans from office. FAV if you think otherwise,” read a tweet from @ConsumersKenya.

Kamanja Kamau slammed the closure of roundabouts saying: “Putting drums at the round abouts is not a solution! The plan for constructing an elevated highway should be expedited #SomeoneTellKidero.”

Popular blogger Xtian Dela weighed in: “Nairobians are angry. Now waiting to see how the Nairobi County Government “Digital Team” is going to spin this #SomeoneTellKidero.”

They were referring to last week’s move where the president’s digital communication team reacted to #2YrsOfHopelessness with a hashtag of their own, #2YearsOfSuccess. Dr Kidero’s office is yet to respond.

Vic Tannui complained that Mombasa Road has turned into a big parking lot while Samuel Wainaina compared Mombasa Road to a “stretched car bazaar”.
