Kenyans troll Twitter bigwigs who lost followers in purge

Twitter bigwigs went to bed On Thursday with millions of followers on Twitter but woke up on Friday with less.

Twitter launched a campaign to weed out fake followers as part of its “ongoing and global effort to build trust and encourage healthy conversation on Twitter”.

In a statement, Twitter said most people will see a change of four followers or fewer and that larger follower counts will experience more significant drops.

In Kenya, bloggers Cyprian Nyakundi and Christian Dela were among those heaviest affected, losing almost half of their followers.

President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy Wiliam Ruto also saw their followers dwindle by thousands.

Kenyans on Twitter mocked the bigwigs with the hashtag #TwitterCleanUpKe trending.

The affected bloggers are yet to comment on their loss.
