Kenya’s most popular radio stations
Radio Citizen was the most listened to station in Kenya in 2021.
This is according to a survey commissioned by GeoPoll Audience Measurement.
The survey was conducted between January and November.
Radio Citizen is a swahili station with a nationwide reach, and owned by the Royal Media Services.
The survey also determined that Radio Maisha boasts the largest audience on Thursdays while Milele FM appear to pull in the audience at the weekends.
The leading breakfast show in the country awas Radio Citizen’s Jambo Kenya with 11.7% of the market share.
“Swahili stations have enormous listenership in rural Kenya and among the older populations. Among the English radio stations, Classic 105 had the biggest audience, followed by Kiss FM and NRG Radio. Kameme FM and Inooro were the most popular vernacular radio stations,” the report read.
Radio Jambo and Radio Maisha are tied in second place at 8.8% .
Classic 105’s Maina and King’ang’i dominated the English segment during weekday morning while Kiss FM’s Morning Kiss by Kamene and Jalas is second.
For the evening shows, people preferred to listen to Radio Maisha than Radio Jambo while the audience attracted to the English language speaking radio preferred Kiss FM to Classic 105.
