Kidero defends JamboPay multi-million deal amid protest by MPs
Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero has asked three MPs to stop politicising the electronic system of collecting revenue.
Governor Kidero on Sunday said the deal with JamboPay had increased transparency and accountability in revenue collection.
MPs Benson Mutura (Makadara), George Theuri (Embakasi West) and Ferdinand Waititu (Kabete) had last week called for the cancellation of the contract awarded to Webtribe Limited, which collects revenue through JamboPay.
Under the terms of the Sh23.2 million contract, the company is supposed to keep 4.5 per cent of the total revenue collected.
NO PROPER PLAN
However, a report by the auditor-general tabled in the county assembly in July revealed that the system was procured without a proper plan.
The tender committee, according to the report, ignored discrepancies in the information provided by the winning bidder.
Webtribe the report says was the most expensive yet it ended up winning the tender.
The MPs are now asking the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission to look into the matter.
On Sunday, Governor Kidero said that the tender was awarded competitively based on the most responsive bidder.
The overall county revenue collection, according to Governor Kidero’s press statement, has risen by approximately Sh1.44 Billion in the 2014/2015 financial year .
