Kidero defends uprooting of ‘Obama’ flowers – VIDEO

The Nairobi Governor Dr Evans Kidero has explained the reason why flowers that were planted recently along Mombasa Road are being uprooted.

Nairobi County Director of Communications Beryl Okundi told Nairobi News that the contractor was simply “restoring the ground in order to do proper planting since that was unfinished work”.

She did not provide further information.

Curiously through, the flowers being uprooted still had the polythene wrappings used for sowing the plants. The wrappings are supposed to be removed during transplanting to let the roots develop in the new surrounding.

A video has surfaced on social media showing workers carefully uprooting the freshly planted flowers, something that touched off speculation that they could have been “hired”.

Social media users claimed the company that had been contracted to plant the flowers in readiness for the grand arrival of US President Barack Obama was reclaiming them.

Nairobi government had set aside Sh50 million to beautify the city ahead of President Obama’s arrival.
