Kidero donates Sh6m to slum fire victims – PHOTOS


Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero on Friday donated Sh6 mllion to Kuwinda slum residents who have been spending the last two nights in the cold after their house were razed in a fire.

The inferno is said to have started at around 11pm on Wednesday while most residents were sleeping.

“I am very sorry for what befell the residents of Kuwinda on Wednesday night. The amounts donated today will go a long way in assisting to resettle families affected by this fire that razed the entire Kuwinda settlement.”

“As the County Government we are committed to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of Nairobi residents,” said the Governor.

Dr Kidero visited the over 700 families affected by the Wednesday night fire.

He also ordered the Nairobi Water Company to supply water to the slum on a daily basis to prevent the outbreak of waterborne diseases.

One person dieed in the incident and several others sustained injuries.

The fire took more than four hours to contain after youths who work as private firefighters refused to respond to the fire until they were paid.
