Kidero not giving up on Sh36 billion budget despite MCAs boycott

Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero remains optimistic that his Sh36 billion will be approved next week despite a bitter standoff with Members of the County Assembly (MCAs).

The standoff revolves on controversy over a total sh5.1 billion set aside in the last three budgets for Ward Development Fund but which Governor Kidero has never released.

The deadline for passing the sh35.89 billion budget estimates for the next financial year was June 30, but members boycotted the day’s sitting causing the house to be adjourned for lack of quorum.

On Saturday, Governor Kidero allayed fears that City Hall’s operations will be paralysed due to the delay in passing the budget.

Speaking during a church service and fundraising event for Mathare North SDA church, Governor Kidero assured Nairobi residents that the budget will be passed in the coming week when the County Assembly resumes its sittings.

“We have some of the most responsible and intelligent MCAs in the Country. I can assure you that all the 127 MCA are responsible and will pass the budget next week,” said Dr Kidero.
