Kidero redirects heavy trucks to Southern bypass

Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero has reiterated that all trucks weighing above eight tonnes would not be allowed onto the A104 highway (Mombasa Road-Uhuru Highway-Waiyaki Way) and will instead be required to use the Southern by pass beginning Sunday.

“The closure of the Southern by pass and the opening of Bunyala and Lusaka Roundabouts has greatly eased traffic in the city. We continue to consult and explore ways by which Nairobians will not continue to be inconvenienced and continue reducing man hours in traffic,” Kidero said.

The governor was speaking during a tour of ongoing repairs (grading and graveling) of the Southern bypass, which is currently 80 per cent complete due to the prevailing bad weather.

Dr Kidero said that the opening of  the Southern by pass would ease traffic on A104.

He also reiterated that drivers who break traffic rules would be arrested and charged.

The next focus of road expansion will shift to Ngong Road to ease traffic congestion in the city.
