Why Kidero has sent 1,600 City Hall staff on annual leave

Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero has sent 1,600 staff members on annual leave.

The officers are said to have accumulated over 60 leave days and have been ordered to proceed to their annual leave with immediate effect.

In a statement to newsrooms, County Secretary Dr Robert Ayisi said the county recognizes the importance of employees to be away temporarily from their work stations to attend to other human needs.

The statement cites various benefit of leave to staff, saying that it leads to rejuvenation of employees and allows them time to attend to personal issues without eating into working time.

County Executive Member in charge of public service management Ms Mercy Kamau noted that there was nothing untoward with the decision.

She added that refusal to go on leave is a liability to City Hall because of the additional cost spent on compensation.

“People need to rest, there is nothing unusual with people going on leave. In fact if they don’t go on leave it is an acquired liability,”said Ms Kamau.
