Kidero sued by firm that repaired City Hall after fire

A contractor who refurbished City Hall after a fire burnt some sections in 2004 has sued Governor Evans Kidero for refusing to settle a Sh24 million debt.

Ngibuini and Associates Consulting Architects claimed that even after High Court Judge Francis Gikonyo in February ruled in their favour, Dr Kidero and the county’s finance manager Luke Gatimu has refused to release the amount.

“We have served them with all necessary court documents but they are not acting. They continue to frustrate our efforts to get what we deserve for the work we did,” the company said through lawyer Gikandi Ngibuini.

The dispute dates back to 2004 when a fierce fire gutted a section of City Hall. Investigations revealed that the fire was due to an electrical fault. It had started in the office of the City Engineer.

After the fire, the defunct City Council of Nairobi contracted the firm in 2005.

In 2011, the company filed a claim at the High Court claiming that the city council had not paid the full amount.
