Kidero to host fundaraiser for broke Gor Mahia

Broke Gor Mahia will on Monday evening hold a fundraiser to help them raise cash to honour their CAF Champions League return leg with Congolese power house AC Leopards.

The fundraiser to be held at the Nairobi Club is being facilitated by Nairobi County governor Evans Kidero.

Club acting secretary general Ronald Ngala said the club is targeting to raise Sh 9 million.

Kidero has in the past one -year engaged in activities aimed at endearing himself to the club’s fans including buying the players the playing kit last season.

OFFSET BONUSES

“We don’t have any money at the moment, but we hope to raise some on Tuesday. We are targeting at least Sh 9 million to enable us honour our return fixture (against AC Leopards), and also to help offset the wining bonuses,” Ngala explained.

Gor clash with AC Leopards on Sunday at the 20,000-seater Stade Denis Sassou Nguesso, Dolisie, approximately 404 kilometres west of the capital Brazzaville.

A contingent of 30 is expected to fly out on Friday to the Congolese capital aboard Kenya Airways before connecting to Dolisie, where the match will be played.

Times have been tough for K’Ogalo and they have been forced to pay their players and technical bench members in bits.

BLEAK FUTURE

The playing unit are still owed winning bonuses for five games after recording victories over CNaPS (Champions league), Sofapaka ( Super Cup), Mathare United, Chemelil Sugar and Bandari(all league matches).

Their financial woes come at a time when their arch rivals AFC Leopards are also staring at a bleak future after their shirt sponsor Mumias Sugar Limited informed them that they will be suspending their sponsorship owing to the financial difficulty being experienced at the firm.

K’Ogalo and Ingwe are the oldest and most successful football clubs in this part of the world, but their trophy haul has not been complimented by healthy bank accounts.
