Why Kidero wants to adopt a Kikuyu name ahead of 2017 elections
Nairobi County Governor Evans Kidero says he will adopt a Kikuyu name, if need be, to win the votes of the Gikuyu community in the next elections.
Dr Kidero disclosed on Wednesday that he has settled on the Gikuyu name of Kariuki as his adopted identity to align himself to the ethnic-based voting patterns in the city.
He made the disclosure during the launch of construction and rehabilitation works on roads in Ngara that will cost Sh6.1 billion. The works are expected to be completed in the next one year.
Dr Kidero made the remarks while addressing mechanics, small traders and jua Kali artisans in the area.

“If my name needs to change to Kariuki so that you can elect me, let it be. When a name does not sound that way, some of you just switch off the network,” said Dr Kidero.
The governor was accompanied by a section of Jubilee MCAs who endorsed him for a second term.
George Maina Njoroge, Umoja I MCA, told the traders that they should give Dr Kidero another chance to finish the projects he has initiated.
“Don’t take chances, give Dr Kidero another term,” said Mr Maina.
James Mwaura Chege (Ngara), Peter Wahinya Njau (Pangani) and Julius Mwaniki Muchiri (Nairobi Central) also accompanied the governor in the tour.
Dr Kidero added that he is not afraid of facing any candidate from the Jubilee Party, expressing confidence in retaining his seat.
“The many the better. I will defeat all of them, let them come,” said Dr Kidero.
