Nairobi governor warns of Facebook impostors

Nairobi County governor Evans Kidero has warned Nairobians to beware of online cons who are asking residents to pay for motorbikes log book transfers.

Mr Kidero posted a screenshot of the message by the fraudsters urging youths who want to be part of the county charity program that aims at issuing motorbikes to nine residents to provide their details.

The post had been updated on the governor’s pseudo account that bears a striking resemblance to his official account.

It read in part, “The partnership has organized a charity and is giving out 9 motor bikes to deserving youths from any county within Kenya as from Wednesday, 7th October.”

The message went on to urge those interested in the program to “In-box” their details for “security reasons.”

The fraudsters have even incorporated the governor’s signature hashtag #BetterCityBetterLife at the end of the post.

Governor Kidero is the latest victim of Facebook impersonators after Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko whose name has been used in the past by fraudsters claiming to be his personal assistants.

The two government officials’ real social media accounts are verified unlike pseudos that do not bear the blue verification tick.
