Kidero’s deal with JamboPay stinks to high heaven – MPs

Members of Parliament have alleged that the contract between Nairobi city county government and JamboPay was procured corruptly and has resulted in reduction of revenue collected.

The MPs now want the Ethics and Anti – Corruption Commission to investigate the manner in which the contract was procured.

They have also demanded that Governor Evans Kidero nullifies the contract.

The MPs were Benson Mutura (Makadara), George Theuri (Embakasi West) and Ferdinand Waititu (Kabete).

City Hall signed the contract with JamboPay in April 2014 to automate revenue collection.

The deal allows city residents to pay for services using their mobile phones, credit or debit cards.

Governor Evans Kidero at the time said the plan will greatly reduce cash handling by collectors who have previously been blamed for revenue loss at source.

It was estimated that the JamboPay will collect Sh600 million per month in the first year with this expected to rise to Sh1.6 billion per month within four years.
