Kimaiyo orders arrest of striking matatu operators

Inspector General of Police David Kimaiyo has ordered for the arrest of matatu operators and taxi drivers who blocked roads on Wednesday to protest at the increased parking fees.

In a series of tweet, Mr Kimayio said the standoff between the county government and the operators could be negotiated out without crippling the transport system.

“I have ordered all police in Nairobi to tow all vehicles blocking the road or causing obstruction, take them to police st and traffic HQs,”

“Their number plates to be removed and handed over to the relevant authorities in the ministry of transport and infrastructure.”

“I direct, the owners and the drivers of the vehicles that have blocked our roads and causing obstruction to be arrested and charged in court.”

“The motorist grievances can be heard without blocking or obstructing the road to other road users, this heinous act will not be tolerated.”
