Kimanzi tells off Harambee Stars coach for dropping ‘truant’ players

Tusker coach Francis Kimanzi has jumped to the defence of two of his players who were recently dropped from national team duties on grounds of indiscipline.

Instead Kimanzi, whose previously managed the national football team, hinted that Harambee Stars coach Bobby Williamson “and his team” should take responsibility for the emerging cases of indiscipline within the team camp.

Tusker FC duo Jesse Were and Danson Kago were among the players dropped by Williamson for the 2018 World Cup preliminary round qualifier against Mauritius. Williamson later confirmed that the players had been left out owing to their “conduct”.

SNEAKED OUT OF CAMP

“The federation explained to us that our players sneaked out of camp and went out drinking. But then, that is very difficult to prove. I would have loved to know if my players were actually found drinking,” Kimanzi said during a local TV show.

“I have managed the national team before. How the players behave on and off the pitch gives you a picture of the team’s management. We also discuss the cases of indiscipline among the players, and we should therefore know why these issues haven’t been handled with professionalism,” Kimanzi said.

Harambee Stars will play against Mauritius in a two leg tie within four days with the first encounter scheduled for Wednesday away in the Indian Ocean island.
