Kisumu cop electrocuted by charged clothesline inside station’s compound
A police officer attached to Huduma Centre in Kisumu, Mr Peter Osiya, met a tragic end on Saturday, December 16, 2023, when he was electrocuted by a charged clothesline within the premises of Kisumu Central Police Station.
The incident was witnessed by Sergeant Caleb Efumbi, who immediately reported the matter. According to Sergeant Efumbi, Osiya was electrocuted and died on the spot.
Immediately after the police were informed, police officers informed Kenya Power staff who rushed to the scene where the body lay dead.
“At the scene, the body of the deceased was found lying lifeless on his back with his hands firmly holding the cloth line,” reads part of a police report seen by Nairobi News.

The report added that the body had visible burns on his hands and stomach.
Investigations so far indicate that the cloth line was charged after it came in contact with an electrical line due to the ongoing heavy rains, which even caused a tree to fall and affected electricity connections at the station.
Police officers, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) and crime scene personnel processed the scene and took photographs.
Mr Osiya’s body was later removed and taken to Star Mortuary in Kisumu town where it is awaiting autopsy.
Cases of people being electrocuted have been on the rise recently, especially in the Nairobi region.
In Kayole, a three-year-old boy was allegedly electrocuted to death in an incident that shocked locals.

In the incident, which occurred on the morning of December 13, 2023, the boy was playing with his friends on the second floor of their residential house when the incident occurred.
Police said he had stepped on a live naked wire, which ended his life instantly.
“The minor was playing with his friends when he stepped on the bare wire that normally connects the building to the main grid,” reads part of a police report seen by Nairobi News.
The minor was rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival and his body was taken to the morgue.
