Kisumu fishermen retrieve body in a body bag from Lake Victoria
Fishermen in Kisumu on Saturday retrieved a body in a body bag from Lake Victoria, amid claims of extra-judicial killings during recent riots in the lakeside town.
Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o claimed the body had two holes on the chest and has promised to seek the services of experts to examine the body.
“I will be going to Nairobi tomorrow to get forensic scientists to come and examine the body to determine the cause of death,” he said.
He went on: “The mortuary attendant here has confirmed that the body brought here today has two holes in the chest.”
He made the remarks after viewing the body at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Hospital mortuary.
Police have however dismissed the governor’s claim.
“Police have got nothing to do with that one. We were called to take the body which we did. Those are baseless claims from the governor,” said Titus Yoma, Kisumu County police boss.
