KNH intern brags on social media after being consulted on ‘his’ patient’s medical history

An intern at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) has openly bragged on social media after the hospital consulted him over the medical history of a lung patient he has been “treating” at home under no supervision.

Gladys Kamande, whom Kenyans rallied behind and donated the Sh8 million required for her treatment, suffered an asthma attack on Thursday night forcing doctors to consult the intern, Samson Buluma.

Ms Kamande’s attack happened at around midnight and due to the ongoing doctors’ strike she was attended to hours later and admitted in the Intensive Care Unit.

It is on Friday morning when the patient’s condition had stabilized that the intern in question took to Facebook to brag.

“I was being consulted every step of her treatment plan… as quack as I am. In the middle of midnight up to 0300hr… I was receiving calls about her clinical history and treatment plan. I will never forgive you Ndung’u Nyoro,” wrote Samson Buluma.

Ndungu Nyoro, who was the online funds drive manager for the ailing patient, busted the intern on Monday after a confirmation from the referral hospital that he was not authorized to treat patients without supervision.

“As soon as I’m done with Gladys Kamande issue and she’s safely in hospital, you’ll be my next assignment. You are a criminal and must become a state guest,” Mr Nyoro replied to Mr Buluma.

KNH confirmed that Mr Buluma was an intern at the facility but stated that he is supposed to rotate in clinics under supervision till Feb 2017 and is not allowed by law to touch a patient or practice with supervision by the senior clinician.
