KNH on high alert after NTV exposé

Kenyatta National Hospital is on high alert following NTV’s exposé on security lapses in the country.

The hospital’s corporate communication manager Simon Ithae says that a team has been tasked with collecting abandoned bags.

“We spent the whole day yesterday collecting bags and taking them to the customer care. We are on very high alert,” said Mr Ithae.

He added that patients and staff working at the hospital needed to be sensitized because security is a matter of public interest.

In the expose which aired on Sunday night, a black bag was abandoned at the hospitals busy Accident and Emergency ward.

Despite its conspicuous presence it stayed at the same place without drawing any interest for almost three hours as patients, staff and visitors carried on with business as usual, until it was finally picked by the reporters.

Like other busy public, private and government installations, KNH could be under threat of terrorist attacks the reason why people should be more vigilant, said Mr Ithae.
