K’Ogalo make no show for GOtv Shield play off tie

Gor Mahia’s otherwise perfect campaign this season ended on a sour note after the Kenyan Premier League champions failed to show up for the GOtv Shield third place play off against Muhoroni Youth at the Nyayo National Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
This decision left match commissioner Maxim Itur with no choice, other than to award victory to Muhoroni Youth who also pocketed Sh 750,000 in prize money.
“Gor Mahia officials did not turn up for the pre-match meeting and the team also failed to show up for kick off. This automatically means they have conceded this tie. The team now risk a heavy financial penalty for their action,” Itur said.
It wasn’t immediately established why K’Ogalo failed to honour the match as none of the club officials were available for comment. Sources though, suggest that all is not well within the team’s ranks as far as their financial issues are concerned.
Midweek, Gor Mahia players almost boycotted the semifinal clash against Nakumatt FC which they played under protest resulting in a 4-2 loss on post-match penalties. Nakumatt will meet Bandari on Sunday afternoon in the competition’s finale.
