Konshens in town for New Year concert
Jamaican Dancehall King Garfield Spence, popularly known as Konshens in entertainment circles, lands in Kenya on Tuesday ahead of a much-awaited concert at the Carnivore in Nairobi on New Year’s eve.
The event, dubbed ‘NRGWAVE’, will also feature Kenya’s top artists including Sauti Sol, Fena, Benzema, and Khaligraph Jones.
The Jamaican, known for hits such as Turn me On, returns to Kenya weeks after he hyped up his tour, claiming he’s always had a soft spot for the country.
This trip recently took a controversial turn after comedian Eric Omondi engaged the Jamaican in a social media tiff in reference to whether Kenyans appreciated foreign artists more than locally based ones.
“I have no problem with Konshens. My Issue is our own messaging!!! We are and have been killing our own!!! It’s all in the messaging people, messaging is everything. So next week Kenyan artists will be unveiled as curtain-raisers,” he complained.
In a rejoinder, Konshens argued that no international artiste was trying to milk Kenya.
