Koops linked with debutants Top Fry

Former AFC Leopards Jan Koops has beens linked to taking up a coaching role at recently promoted Nakuru Top Fry.

The club is looking for a new coach after demoting Coach Peter Okidi to to the assistant coach role.

Mr Okidi led the team to their first ever season in top flight football.

The 72 year old Koops has been without a job since leaving his post at City Stars towards the end of last season.

He was previously linked with the Tusker FC coaching role. Koops claimed that he had an agreement with the club’s hierarchy to take over as coach. (Read: Tusker job was mine http://bit.ly/19KoW18)

That however did not materialise as the 2012 Champions appointed Francis Kimanzi instead.

When contacted by Nairobi News, the Dutchman said he was ready to coach in the top flight but refused to confirm whether he would be taking the vacant position at the Nakuru based side.

Top Fry’s management has revealed that they are looking for a new head coach who will be unveiled in the coming weeks as they bid to do well in the top league.

The club’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Robert Muthomi said they have opned talks with various coaches and hope to have one in place before the league kicks off.

“We are delighted to have made it to the top league but understand that playing in the KPL requires a lot. Therefore, one of our key objectives is changing the coaching staff.

“In this regard we are in the market for a new head coach even as we retain Peter Okidi in an assistant role. We have identified several coaches and hope to have completed the signing by early next month,” said Mr Muthomi.

He however declined to reveal who they are targeting though reliable sources said Jan Koops is one of those being targeted.

Top Fry secured a place in this season’s Tusker Premier League after beating former KPL Champions Oserian 1-0 in the playoff last month.

They will be joined by Kenya Revenue Auhtority who also qualified after beating Posta Rangers in the other qualifier.
