KPBC boss Reuben Ndolo unveils Sarah Achieng versus Mellisa bout

Kenya’s Commonwealth super lightweight champion Sarah Achieng’ will face former World Boxing Council (WBC) champ, Melissa Hernandez of Puerto Rico, in a 10-round fight at Carnivore Grounds in Nairobi on October 21, 2022.

The bout was announced by the Kenya Professional Boxing Commission (KPBC).

“We have worked hard to get here and I am excited to inform Kenyans to come and enjoy top-notch boxing action,” said KPCC chairman Reuben Ndolo.

“KPBC extends our appreciation to sponsors Maa Hotels and Suites, Safarilink, Avenue Healthcare, and Homeboyz Entertainment as well as the promoters Messrs and Solid Rock Promotions for making this fight possible.”

KPBC chair Reuben Ndolo stressed the bout will be the first of many international fights returning to Nairobi.

“I am ready for her,” added Achieng.

“I will be fighting at home and expect the support. She is an experienced trainer but has some soft areas that we hope to capitalise on. I will not say more about that now.”

Also present at the pre-fight conference where the modalities of the eagerly anticipated bout were announced was Nairobi County Assembly Speaker Hon Ken Ng’ondi.

The event was held at the Maa Hotel in Nairobi.

Ngondi promised to lobby the Nairobi County Assembly to support legislation that promotes sports activities.

“I am happy my first engagement has been at sports and specifically boxing in Nairobi. We shall be pushing for good laws, through the Member of County Assemblies (MCAs) for the growth of sports,” said Ngondi
