Kriss Darlin: It’s no big deal kneeling in front of Baba – VIDEO
Popular reggae DJ and renowned Emcee Chris Odhiambo, popularly known as Kriss Darlin, has explained why he knelt before ODM party leader Raila Odinga in public last weekend.
The incident happened at Kamukunji grounds when the party unveiled several aspirants for the Kibra parliamentary seat which fell vacant following the death of Ken Okoth on July 26, 2019.
SHARP CRITICISM
Kriss Darlin, who was among more than 20 aspirants who attended the rally, shocked those in attendance when he went on his knees as he begged Odinga to “hold his hand” through the party’s nomination process.
His actions attracted sharp criticism from the online community. However, Kriss Darlin has now come out to justify his actions.
“I did not kneel down in front of a human being because he is God, and when I knelt in front of Baba, I didn’t not mean that he was God. There is only one God. I knelt because that is the way I was raised, to respect my elders,” he explained.
He went ahead to give examples of how men go on one knee when they are asking a girl to marry them or when someone is talking to an elder who is seated.
Kriss Darlin’s explanations came even as his name was among the final list of 11 aspirants submitted by ODM to the IEBC for the Kibra mini-poll.
PARTY NOMINEES
A total of 23 people had picked application forms for the nomination exercise slated for August 31, but nine of them failed to comply with the party’s requirements.
On Monday ODM Electoral Board chairperson Judith Pareno told aspirants to pay Sh200,000 fees by midday Tuesday or be locked out of the nomination.
Apart from Kriss Darlin those who have been cleared are Ken Okoth’s brother Bernard Otieno aka Imran Okoth, Peter Ochieng, Tony Ogola Sira, Reuben Ojijo and Stephen Okello.
Also cleared are Eric Ochieng, Brian Owino, John Otieno, Benson Musungu and Patrick Lumumba Owade.
