KRU releases Mwamba Cup draw

The Mwamba Cup draw was Monday released by the Kenya Rugby Union.

Defending champions KCB II start their campaign against Thika Road neighbours Kenyatta University’s Blak Blad II, while last year’s finalists Impala II host Western Bulls II.

Eric Shirley Shield defending champions Kenya Harlequins II host Nondescripts II, while Strathmore II visit Mwamba II in two of the crackers lined up for March 8.

The Mwamba Cup features teams in the Eric Shirley Shield, which are the second string sides of Kenya Cup teams. A few exceptional performers from the Nationwide League like Kabras Sugar, Daystar, Egerton and CUEA have also been included in this year’s draw.

KRU had last week released the Enterprise Cup fixtures. The two tournaments will run concurrently, with the finals being played on March 29.

Defending champions Mwamba, finalists Nakuru, and semifinalists Nondies and KCB all get byes to the quarterfinals by virtue of finishing in the top four last year.

KCB II beat Impala II 22-21 in last year’s Mwamba Cup final, while Mwamba beat Nakuru 15-10 to clinch the Enterprise Cup on the same day.
