Lacklustre Harambee Stars eliminated from Cecafa

Kenya has been eliminated from the Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup in Ethiopia.

This is after Harambee Stars lost 5-3 on post-match penalties to Rwanda in an epic duel played at the Addis Ababa Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.

The two teams had tied at 0-0 after full time.

Mathare United youngster Eric Johanna missed the crucial penalty to hand the tie to the Amavubi.

Noach Abich, David Owino and Jesse Were all converted their spot kicks for Bobby Williamson’s team

The match was graced by Sports Cabinet Secretary Hassan Wario and Sports Commissioner Gordon Oluoch.

“We played well today but it wasn’t our evening, we missed some chances the lads could have converted on another day. It is disappointing,”Stars coach Bobby Williamson explained afterwards.

Speaking at half-time, Sports Secretary Wario blamed Football Kenya Federation for poor planning ahead of this tournament and urged football delegates to vote out the current administrators during the national elections that begin on Thursday.

“We gave out Sh3.5 million for this team to prepare, but the federation let down this team again. Change is needed in Kenyan football and I am asking those in charge to vote out this group,” Wario said.
