Lang’ata home owners to be compensated
The expansion of Lang’ata Road is set to be completed after the government hammered a deal with investors whose homes are on the road reserve.
The work which started in 2011 was abandoned after the investors rushed to court and obtained orders stopping the work.
Details of the deal are sketchy, but the agreement was put together by a government- home owners committee chaired by Mr Tom Gitoho.
However, according to former Tetu MP Francis Nyamu, one of the investors and a member of the committee, the compensation does not match up to the value of the homes, which he said has appreciated over the years.
“We have no sentimental value on the homes, as long as the government keeps its end of the deal and compensates us. As an investor, we move from one asset to the other,” says Nyamu.
The contractor, China-Wu-Yi has already resumed work after a three-month break.
The road users have lately complained of heavy traffic snarl-up that usually stretches for kilometres and lasts for hours.
