Last chance: Green Card Lottery registration closes on Tuesday

The registration period for the Diversity Visa Programme for Fiscal Year 2025 (DV-2025) closes today, Tuesday November 7, 2023 at 8pm local time.

Registration for the DV programme, commonly known as the green card lottery, takes place each year between October and November. This year’s registration period opened on October 4, 2023.

The programme makes up to 55,000 green cards available on a lottery basis to nationals of countries with low rates of immigration to the United States.

Countries that have sent more than 50,000 of their citizens to the United States in the previous five years are not eligible to participate in the lottery, which is run by the US Department of State.

The program is run by the US State Department and makes available on a lottery basis up to 55,000 green cards to nationalities of countries with history low rates of immigration to the United States.

The Department of State annually administers the statutorily created Diversity Immigrant Visa Program.

According to the State Department, section 203(c) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) provides for a class of immigrants known as “diversity immigrants” from countries with historically low rates of immigration to the United States.

For DV-2025, citizens of the following countries are not eligible to participate in the programme: Bangladesh, Brazil, Canada, People’s Republic of China (including Mainland China and Hong Kong), Colombia, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Haiti, Honduras, India, Jamaica, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, Republic of Korea (South Korea), Venezuela, and Vietnam. Residents of Macau SAR and Taiwan are eligible.
