Laura Oyier among Kenya’s top Google searches for March


Singer Laura Oyier is among the top ten personalities that made the list in Kenya’s trending Google searches for March, according to Google search trends.

Oyier came second behind the Kajiado by election and was closely followed by KCSE Results Online which took the third position.

Oyier came into the limelight under controversial circumstances that saw her name plastered all over social media and a few daily newspapers.

She became the talk of the town after appearing in court for failing to settle a bill that amounted to Sh 230, 000 at the Intercontinental Hotel in Nairobi during the Valentine’s Day weekend.

Later on in an interview with The Trend’s Larry Madowo, she revealed that former radio queen Caroline Mutoko of the Radio Africa Group had settled the hefty bill, and to the surprise of many, offered her a job at Radio Africa as well.

Oyier took to social media and posted pictures of Gidi Gidi, a Radio Jambo Presenter who accompanied her to pay the bill. She also posted photos of the paid hotel receipts.

EL CLASICO

Coming in at number four was El Clasico, a match between Spanish football rivals Real Madrid and FC Barcelona that ended in a 2-1 win for the latter.

Football fans also searched for English Premier League (EPL) match between Liverpool and Swansea which ended in a 1:0 score, as well as Royal Kenya Bet, a sports betting site.

La Malquerida, a Mexican telenovela that premiered on Citizen TV took the fifth position while Mike Okinyi, a sports anchor at the station who recently lost his son was at number six.

Okinyi announced the death of his son via Twitter and wrote: “It is with great sadness that I announce the demise of my boy Twani Kitwana… he was a fighter but lost (the) battle today.”

The Sonko Rescue Team, an initiative by the Nairobi County senator Mike Mbuvi Sonko designed to enhance service delivery to Nairobi residents attracted many people online.

During the month, the team took Mzee Ojwang, a legendary comedian to Lions Sightfirst Eye Hospital where he was diagnosed with partial blindness. Mzee Ojwang also made to the top trending searches of Google this month.
