Lavatsa tricked us, Gor officials lament

Kenyan Premier League champions Gor Mahia are yet to come to terms with the departure of striker Edwin Lavatsa who has joined Algerian side MC Algier

According to Secretary General George Bwana, the player was expected to pen a new deal this week after returning from a week-long residential camp in Oloitoktok with the club.

“We had agreed personal terms with Lavatsa, all that was left was his signature. He was with the rest of the team in Oloitoktok but asked for permission to leave early on Friday to attend to a personal matter that had just come up in Nairobi. We released him but it appears he was preparing to leave for Algeria,” said Mr Bwana.

Mr Bwana added that negotiations for the new contract were proceeding well and gave the club confidence in landing his signature.

He however said that the bears no ill will towards Lavatsa.

The striker helped Gor Mahia win its first Kenyan Premier League title in 18 years.

“We cannot stand in his way, and we wish him well there and thank him for his services. We will however not be adding to the team as we feel we have enough quality to win all titles on offer next season,” added Bwana.

Lavatsa joined Gor Mahia in 2011 while still in form four at Upperhill High School. He was by then plying his trade at GMF Olympic, who have been promoted to the 2014 Nairobi Provincial League.
