Leopards coach under pressure for dropping Katterga, Indeche

AFC Leopards coach Ivan Minnaert is yet again facing intense pressure from the club’s management and supporters following a spate of poor performances and questionable decisions in recent weeks.

The outspoken Belgian trainer dropped custodian Lucas Indeche and attacker Allan Katerega from his squad that lost 4-1 to Kakamega Homeboyz in Western Kenya last weekend.

The official explanation Minnaert offered to the management was that the duo had been dropped for discipline reasons.

“But we are made to understand this purely isn’t the case. It seems Minnaert is the one who doesn’t take opinions with an open mind. He also holds and keeps grudges. That moment you differ with him, you are dropped,” a club official who spoke to Nairobi News revealed.

Katerega has since been ordered to train with the U20 team in unclear reasons.

The development came barely a week after a series of damning posts on striker Kepha Aswani’s Facebook page that suggested the club’s lead striker had also fallen out with Minnaert.

The pressure on the former Rayon Sport coach comes after the team conceded ten goals in the last three matches against Ushuru, Homeboyz and Tanzania’s Simba FC.

Leopards are currently ranked 10th on the 16 team SportPesa Premier League, eight positions lower compared to when Minnaert was appointed in February 2016.
