Leopards draw Tusker, Gor face Muhoroni in Top 8

As if their problems couldn’t get any worse, 13-time league champions AFC Leopards were on Friday drawn against Tusker in the Top 8 tournament scheduled to start on September 26.

This will be a repeat of last year’s finals where Tusker beat Ingwe 2-1 at the Kinoru Stadium in Meru to lift the Top Eight Trophy.

League champions Gor Mahia, who won the second edition of the tournament in 2012, have been drawn against minnows Muhoroni Youth.

GOtv Shield holders Sofapaka have landed troubled Chemelil Sugar, who are currently staring relegation.

The fourth quarter-final match will be between four-time league champions Ulinzi Stars and Sony Sugar.

The Top 8 draw was conducted on Friday at the Hilton Hotel where Gor Mahia, Sofapaka, Tusker and Ulinzi Stars who finished in the top four positions last season were seeded in one pot while the other four teams were placed in the second pot.

This season, none of the matches will be played in Nairobi with Moi Stadium in Kisumu has been picked to host the final.

A fresh draw will be conducted after the quarterfinal matches have been played. The winners will walk away with a Sh1 million cash prize.
